About Me
Hi, I’m Jana (pronounced Jay-nah), a queer Filipino American therapist based in Los Angeles. My journey into healing work wasn’t linear—it began with storytelling. I started my career in journalism, working as a writer and copy editor for the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. From a young age, I was drawn to words, believing in their power to illuminate truth and human experience. But after a significant life transition, I felt called to do something more personal, more direct—work that could bring real healing to people’s lives.
My path into mental health began in 2009 when I volunteered at a rape crisis hotline, supporting sexual assault survivors through crisis intervention and forensic exams. That experience deeply shaped me. I saw firsthand how trauma affects not just the mind, but the body and spirit. I wanted to do more, so I went back to school and earned my Master’s Degree in Couples and Family Therapy from the California School of Professional Psychology in 2014.
Since then, I’ve worked in various settings, including community mental health, where I gained experience treating trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in 2018 and completed EMDR training through the Institute of Creative Mindfulness.
My Approach
I specialize in working with survivors of sexual abuse, guiding them toward healing through a trauma-informed, integrative approach. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and IFS (Internal Family Systems)-informed therapy to help clients process trauma, regulate emotions, and reconnect with their inner strength. My goal is to create a safe, empowering space where healing feels possible.
Beyond therapy, I also offer sound healing as a separate service, using sound bowl meditations to help clients experience deep relaxation and energetic balance. While distinct from talk therapy, sound healing can be a meaningful complement for those seeking holistic healing.
I believe healing is not just about processing the past—it’s about reclaiming your sense of self, your power, and your wholeness. If you’re ready to take that step, I’m here to support you.
I look forward to connecting with you.
